A recent invitation to the Great American Beer Festival and all the associated beer-related happenings got me thinking about the myriad of refreshing beers I’ve enjoyed this summer. From ciders and shandies to wheat beers and unique takes on the Michelada, it’s been a good run. But it also made me realize I’ve only had a couple of what I was sure would be my go-to summer drink: the Captain Shaddock at Justice Snow’s. A nod to the 17th-century Englishman who brought grapefruit seeds to the West Indies from the East Indies, this cocktail mixes together fresh fruit, grapefruit liquor, tequila and a local pilsner. The flavors truly complement each other and make for the perfect summertime beertail. I guess I best go get one before autumn sets in and my sights turn to heavier beers and warmer cocktails.
