Stewart Oksenhorn The Aspen Times

Summer is the time we tend to turn our brains off and search for superficial entertainment. New Views: Documentaries & Dialogue, a film series co-presented by Aspen Film and the Aspen Institute, fights that urge. The series opens Monday, July 15 with “Blood Brother,” the story of Rocky, a young American man who tries to put meaning in his life by moving to India and working at an orphanage for children with HIV. The film earned two major awards at Sundance. Director Steve Hoover, Rocky’s close friend, will be in attendance for a discussion. Also in the series: “Anita,” about the former Supreme Court law clerk Anita Hill; “Inequality for All,” about the widening economic gap as seen through the eyes of former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich; and “Gasland Part II,” which continues the examination of the controversial exploration for natural gas.
