Jazz Aspen Honor Jazz Band & Choir coming to Roaring Fork High

The public is invited to a free performance by the District Eight Honor Jazz Band on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Roaring Fork High School.

Students and the faculty are performing the show live together for the first time, following two says of intensive jazz training, instructional workshops and rehearsals with a faculty of professional musicians provided by Jazz Aspen Snowmass.

Now entering its 15th year, the District Eight Honor Jazz Band brings together more than 100 teenage jazz musicians and vocalists, representing 18 middle and high schools from Aspen, Basalt, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, Eagle, Summit County, Steamboat Springs, Granby, Rifle and Moffat County.

“It’s amazing how these students from different schools come together and in less than 48 hours are able to hop onstage and perform as if they’ve been practicing with each other for months,” Jazz Aspen director of marketing Andrea Beard said in a statement. “We hope the community will come out and give them a big crowd to perform for.”
