The Wheeler Opera House is launching its Monday Docs film series today.

The revamped series, now presented in conjunction with Telluride Mountainfilm, will run monthly on the first Monday of each month from October through May.

The October entry is a selection of short films about the global refugee crisis, including “50 Feet from Syria,” “How We Choose” and “Clinica de Migrantes.”

“50 Feet From Syria” is a profile of a Syrian-American doctor named Hisham Bismar, who leaves his comfortable practice in the U.S. to work in a Turkish hospital 50 feet from the border of Syria. Bismar will take part in a special Q&A following the film.

“How We Choose” follows several people as they grapple with the heart-wrenching decision to leave their motherland — some illegally — and start over again in a new country.

“Clinicia de Migrantes” is about Puentes de Salud, a volunteer-run clinic that provides free medical care to undocumented immigrants in south Philadelphia. Along with revealing these patient stories, “Clinica” also is a look at the doctors and nurses who work pro bono to ensure these people receive care.

General admission tickets to the screenings are $15 ($10 for Wheeler Wins members) and are on sale now at the Wheeler Box Office, 970-920-5770 and http://www.aspenshowtix.com.
