Carbondale’s SoL Theatre Company is staging an original musical version of “The Giving Tree” this weekend at Carbondale Middle School.
The classic children’s book by Shel Silverstein will be interwoven with poems from Silverstein’s “Where the Sidewalk Ends” to tell a story of selfless love and finding your place in the world.
From a young boy in school, to a man struggling to find his voice, the play follows a boy through his life. You’ll meet his imaginary friends who keep him company and help him express himself as he deals with school and bullies and feeling alone. And you’ll meet Jane, his soul mate in poetry, storytelling and love.
Adapted for the stage by SoL executive director Jennifer Michaud, the production includes original music and lyrics by local musician, teacher and recording artist Matt Haslett. It stars a cast of young local performers.
