‘Room’ to open Aspen Filmfest in September
“Room,” a new feature film based on the bestselling novel by Emma Donoghue, will open the 37th annual Aspen Filmfest on Sept. 25, Aspen Film announced this week.
The annual festival will run from Sept. 25 through 30, showcasing features and documentaries from around the world along with previews of starry studio releases.
“Room” is directed by Lenny Abrahamson and stars Brie Larson, Jacob Tremblay, William H. Macy and Joan Allen. An emotional journey, it demonstrates the triumphant power of a mother’s love even under the darkest of circumstances. The Aspen Filmfest audience will be the first to see “Room” outside of its Toronto International Film Festival premiere earlier in the month.
“Aspen Film is honored to open our 37th Aspen Filmfest with such an anticipated title,” Aspen Film Executive Director John Thew said. “‘Room’ is sure to set the stage for our forthcoming impressive and diverse program.”
The full festival program is expected to be announced next week. Aspen Film member presale tickets go on sale Sept. 4. Tickets for the general public will be available Sept. 11. Tickets for all Aspen and Carbondale shows will be available through the Wheeler Opera House box office (320 E. Hyman Ave., 970-920-5770, http://www.aspenshowtix.com); tickets for Carbondale shows are also available through Bonfire Coffee (433 Main St., 970-510-5327, http://www.bonfirecoffee.com).
