Road-trip alert: Hangout Music Festival
In the ever-escalating music festival arms race, producers and promoters around the U.S. annually aim to top one another with top-tier talent, bigger venues and better off-stage amenities. But none of the big ones have what the Hangout Music Festival has: the beach.
The Gulf Shores, Alabama, festival — established in 2010 — runs May 15 to 17 and is an ideal offseason getaway for mountain-town folk.
This year’s lineup includes Foo Fighters, Sam Smith, Zac Brown Band, Beck, My Morning Jacket, Skrillex, Father John Misty and Spoon, along with recent Belly Up acts such as Talib Kweli, Cold War Kids, Galactic, Damian Marley, JackLNDN, Odesza, Hondmouth, Umphrey’s McGee and Beats Antique (and upcoming Belly Up bands including Lake Street Dive and Xavier Rudd).
Others highlights in the beachside festival’s lineup: Foster The People, Paramore, Major Lazer, TV On The Radio, Phantogram, Jenny Lewis, Future Islands and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band among others.
Tickets are $249 for the weekend and available at www.hangout musicfest.com. A VIP option runs $1,099 and includes amenities such as swimming pools and air-conditioned bathrooms.
