R.E.M.’s Mike Mills coming to Aspen Music Festival

R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills will perform with violinist Robert McDuffie this summer at the Aspen Music Festival.

McDuffie has commissioned a new composition from Mills for the concert on Aug. 11 in the Benedict Music Tent. Mills’ Concerto for Violin, Rock Band, and String Orchestra will feature McDuffie performing a solo violin part and a four-member rock band, led by Mills on bass and keyboard, with a string orchestra.

Mills and McDuffie have been close friends since they were teenagers growing up in Macon, Georgia.

The eclectic program also includes John Adams’ “Road Movies” and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings in C major.

Tickets are available at the Music Festival box office, 970-925-9042 or http://www.aspen musicfestival.com. The event will be open to season passholders.
