Artists who have won the Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities’ Mountain Fair poster design contest in the past have gotten some pretty great perks: cash and seeing their designs on T-shirts and fliers for one of the valley’s biggest annual events.

This year, the winning artist will get even more exposure thanks to a collaboration with Roaring Fork Beer Co. The brewery will make a special Mountain Fair beer (style and name to be determined) to be packaged and distributed throughout the valley, and the winning artwork will appear on the beer’s label.

“We wanted to collaborate with the CCAH to add a fun, new element to the poster-design contest that would give the winning artist a great deal of additional exposure,” said Aly Sanguily, marketing director of the brewery.

In addition to providing the winning artist with added exposure, Roaring Fork Beer Co. will donate 1 percent of all profits from this special brew to the Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities.

“Our brewery’s vision was built around participation with an adoration and passion for the local arts, and we felt that this would be a great thank-you to not only the artists, but to CCAH for all of their efforts in the community,” Sanguily said.

Mountain Fair, now approaching its 44th year, draws more than more than 20,000 patrons and more than 145 vendors, not to mention musical guests and performing artists.

“We look forward to Mountain Fair all year long because not only is it the best party of the year, but the amazing energy from participants and visitors is unmatchable,” Sanguily said. “We feel honored to be an essential part of the fair this year.”

Those interested in submitting a poster design must do so by Friday. Designs can be any medium with the ability to transfer to a digital image for reproduction and they must include “The 44th Carbondale Mountain Fair” along with the dates July 24, 25 and 26. Submissions can be dropped off or mailed to the council at The Launchpad, 76 S. Fourth St., in Carbondale. If you would like your entry returned by mail, then you must include a self-addressed stamped envelope, package or mailing tube.

This year’s winner will receive a $500 cash prize, and his or her design will appear on the official Mountain Fair T-shirt and poster as well as on Roaring Fork Beer’s special brew.
