JAS adds Booker T. and Marcus Miller to June bill, releases summer Café acts

Jazz Aspen Snowmass has added a headlining double bill of Marcus Miller and Booker T. Jones to its JAS June Experience, the nonprofit announced today.
The pair of jazz and funk electric bassist Miller and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jones — of Booker T & The MGs — will present a Stax Revue and journey through soul, blues and R&B on June 26.
The Grammy winners close out the festival’s first weekend in the Benedict Music Tent, which includes previously announced headliners Diana Ross (June 24) and Sheryl Crow (June 25). The Experience will kick off with singer-songwriter Gregory Porter performing at the JAS Café Upstairs at the Aspen Art Museum on June 23. It will close with Motown icon Smokey Robinson in the tent July 2 in a co-presentation with the Aspen Music Festival.
Jazz Aspen also announced the line-up for this summer’s JAS Café Series, featuring an expanded program of new faces and familiar favorites.
Monty Alexander, Jeff Hamilton and John Clayton’s “Montreux 40th Year Reunion” will take the stage July 8 and 9 at the Aspen Art Museum. In 1976, the trio played the famed European festival, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. As part of this anniversary celebration, Montreux announced the top 10 performances of all time, including the trio’s ’76 show.
The France-based Django Festival Allstars return to JAS Café at the Little Nell on July 20 and 21 with swinging Gypsy hot jazz inspired by the legendary French guitarist Django Reinhardt. The performances will mark the third consecutive year back for the band.
Internationally acclaimed Latin jazz pianist Michel Camilo and his Trio will make their Jazz Aspen debut at the Aspen Art Museum on July 29. An act for the following night, July 30, is still to be announced.
Breakout female jazz vocalist Cecile McLorin Salvant will perform Aug. 12 at the museum. On Aug. 13, vocalist Curtis Stigers — who played the JAS Café to great acclaim in winter 2013-14 — returns with a tribute to “Sinatra at 100,” backed by the 15 piece H2 Big Band, performing arrangements from “Sinatra at the Sands,” also in the museum venue.
The series will conclude with another weekend of music beginning with the sizzling Cuban sounds of the eight-piece Maraca and his Latin Jazz Allstars, led by flutist Orlando “Maraca” Valle on Aug. 19 followed by a co-presentation with the Aspen Music Festival & School on August 20 featuring jazz bassist Christian McBride with classical bassist Edgar Meyer — an encore performance following the Aspen debut of their collaboration in summer of 2008.

Palm Tree Music Festival returns Feb. 23-24 with Chainsmokers, David Guetta, and Kygo
The Chainsmokers, David Guetta, Kygo, Labrinth, Drama, and Harry Hudson are set to take the stage at the second annual Palm Tree Music Festival Aspen. The festival, co-produced by Palm Tree Crew, Belly Up Aspen, and C3 Presents will take place February 23-24, 2024 at Rio Grande Park located in downtown Aspen.
