The Jazz Aspen Snowmass Band Battle returns to Basalt on Saturday after a few years in Carbondale. The annual showcase of local musical talent, in Lions Park, will feature 10 student bands from throughout the Roaring Fork Valley representing genres from reggae to rock and jazz.

The winning band will receive free recording time at Great Divide Recording Studios in Aspen, while the winning singer/songwriter will be offered a chance to play a live KSPN Kitchen Concert.

“We are very excited to bring Band Battle back to Basalt,” said Andrea Beard of Jazz Aspen Snowmass. “Band Battle is always such a fun community event, perfect for the whole family. We invite the entire community to come join us and enjoy the free music, as well as all of the shopping and dining that downtown Basalt has to offer.”

The Riverside Grill will donate 10 percent of its proceeds — from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday — to Jazz Aspen’s education programming.

The event is sponsored by Alpine Bank, Alchemy Audio Visual Concert Systems, Aspen 82, Zapazoo, the town of Basalt and The Aspen Times.
