After a winter in which Aspen Santa Fe Ballet only held one local performance, the dance company will return with a full Aspen summer season including a world premiere commission, two visiting companies and a flamenco program.

The season of performances at the Aspen District Theatre will run July 8 to Aug. 22. Tickets will go on sale in May.

DanceBrazil opens the season July 8, with a spirited program showcasing the company’s trademark fusion of contemporary dance, Afro-Brazilian movement and capoeira, the traditional martial-arts form rooted in the streets of Brazil and, before that, in the colonial slave experience.

The local company will perform its own repertoire July 18, 28 and Aug. 22. The three performances will include the world premiere of a commissioned work from Alejandro Cerrudo of Spain, current resident choreographer at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, “1st Flash” by Finnish superstar Jorma Elo and the return of Aspen Santa Fe favorite “Beautiful Mistake” by the Spanish Cayetano Soto.

Juan Siddi Flamenco Santa Fe, a program of Aspen Santa Fe, returns July 23 with its ensemble of 14 dancers.

Les Ballets Jazz des Montreal takes the stage Aug. 7 and 8. The contemporary group’s program features “Harry” by Israeli-American choreographer Barak Marshall, “Closer,” a duet by Benjamin Millepied set to the music of Philip Glass and “Rouge,” a high-intensity piece by the legendary Brazilian choreographer Rodrigo Pederneiras.

During winter 2014-15, the company performed “The Nutcracker” in Aspen and Santa Fe in December, followed by a 10-city North American tour. The local hiatus followed a period of expansion that included taking Juan Siddi’s flamenco company under its wing. Artistic director Tom Mossbrucker said in December the company was focused on gearing up for its 20th anniversary season in winter 2015-16.
