Gardner, Tipton let down their constituents

Our elected representatives should be engaging their constituents from all parties, not hiding from those with different points of view.

Sadly for our democracy, Sen. Cory Gardner and Rep. Scott Tipton are keeping their ears and minds closed by failing to hold traditional town hall meetings. The period from Feb. 21 to 24 is set aside on the Congressional calendar to permit public meetings in Congressional home districts.

Citizens of all parties are paying these elected officials handsome salaries and enviable benefits packages, so part of their job is to listen to a wide variety of public concerns. The face-to-face town hall meeting is the typical American format in which this takes place.

By any independent measure, the two officials are letting down their constituents and failing to fulfill the duties of their offices. Please rethink your responsibilities to all your constituents and meet your obligations to a vital democracy.

Lobbyists and party loyalists should not be the only citizens with personal access.

I urge each of you reading this to call them and request they hold town hall meetings.

Repr. Scott Tipton: 202-225-4761, 970-241-2499
