Letter: Thanks for the support

From everyone at the Aspen Police Department, we would like to thank the Aspen Elks Lodge No. 224 for hosting its annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner on Thursday. We would like to extend additional thanks for the hospitality shown by members of Elks Lodge No. 224 to the families of our officers and the acknowledgement of their role in providing daily support to our officers in their policing careers.

The dinner, held in recognition of National Law Enforcement Memorial Day and National Police Week, was a reminder to all of how fortunate we are to live and work in Aspen. While policing around the nation is currently in the public eye, and rightly being held to higher standards, we wish to underscore our dedication to listening to our community and to the treatment of every person with respect and empathy.

We would like to offer special thanks to Rebecca Hodgson for drafting a proclamation that was presented at last week’s Aspen City Council meeting, declaring the week of May 10 through 16 Aspen Police Appreciation Week. Community support such as this is sincerely appreciated as well as humbling.

The Aspen Police Department deeply appreciates the support and trust the Elks and the community place in us as peace officers.
