Letter: Can we do more?

Dear Roaring Fork Valley residents,

This is not easy to read.

Two local Colorado men recently pleaded guilty to the production of child pornography — videos and images involving children who were “4 weeks old” (United States v. Sailas) and 3 to 7 years old (United States v. Gallegos) in each respective case. Yes, that is rape of a baby.

Did you — as this man’s co-worker, neighbor or friend — notice this was happening? Please stand up and say something next time. Is your intuition telling you something is wrong with this person? Then report it, please!

This is so disturbing on every level, most people just can’t comprehend that it actually happens among us. Well, wake up — it’s alive and well here in the valley.

What can we do to stop men like Luis Alfonso Aragon Gallegos of Glenwood Springs, who confessed to raping a child who was between 3 and 7 years old and created images and videos of him molesting her and selling them for profit? Can we start a movement? What can police do to stop this, if anything? Let’s open this for discussion.

We have swept this issue under the rug for too long. It’s unfortunately here in our valley. Let’s be diligent and bust these pervs! Our children depend on it.
