Mountain Mayhem: Apres Ski Cocktail Classic

"The Godfather of Mezcal" Ron Cooper, at left, founder of New Mexico-based Del Maguey, Single Village Mezcal, with a crew of Mezcal fans.

The fifth annual Après Ski Cocktail Classic took over town from March 9 to 12 with spirits seminars, fireside chats, storytelling sessions, slope-side pop-ups, grand tastings, a pub crawl and more. Brand ambassadors from leading spirits the world over were on hand to speak to their company history, introduce new cocktail recipes and share their perspectives on the industry. The Classic was headquartered at The Little Nell for events both large scale and intimate, with participating venues throughout town including Jimmy’s, Justice Snow’s, The Sky, Casa Tua, Bootsy Bellows and Hotel Jerome, as well as the base, Buckhorn Cabin and at the top of Aspen Mountain. Spirits were high all weekend under clear skies and amidst sunny springtime conditions — the makings of an après-ski extravaganza.

Consumers were exposed firsthand to award-winning spirits such as Stoli Elit, the highest rated vodka on the market from the Beverage Testing Institute, to Hennessy XO Extra Old Cognac to Glenfiddich 12-year-old single malt scotch whisky. If you missed this event or are thirsty for more before next March, consider the sister festival coming up this spring. The Après Ski Cocktail Classic team is taking their concept to the coast with Après at the Beach in Delray, Florida, from May 19 to 21. If they’ve got you at “drinks on the beach,” visit the Après Ski Cocktail Classic website for details.
