Village Express at Snowmass to fire up

Aspen Times Staff Report
Aspen, CO Colorado

SNOWMASS – The Village Express lift at Snowmass will operate for the first time in summer history during the next two weekends while the mountain hosts mountainboarding and mountain biking competitions.

On Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 1-2, the Village Express will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day instead of the Burlingame Lift. It will be open to both foot passengers and mountain bikers, and bikers will have access to the official Blast the Mass course before that event takes place the following weekend.

Highlighting the action this weekend is the Snowmass 2009 Mountainboarding Competition, including a downhill boardercross event followed by a big-air show in the Dirt Dawg Park, from 9 a.m. to noon. Awards will be handed out at the Treehouse in Base Village at 1:30 p.m. Call 923-1227 to register for the competition; the fee is $20.

On Aug. 7-9, the Village Express will be restricted to foot passengers and lift-served mountain biking at Snowmass will be off-limits to the general public to allow for the Blast the Mass mountain biking competition.

Rides on the Village Express lift are free to those with a Premier season ski pass from last season. For those without a pass, tickets for adults are $20 per day or $30 for the weekend; and $12 per day for children, youths and seniors. Tickets will be sold at the Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center at the base of Fanny Hill.

Incidentally, Sam’s Smokehouse at the top of Sam’s Knob will be open for lunch on Aug. 1-2 and Aug. 7-9.
