Latest case against five-time DUI offender dismissed
The district attorney has dismissed a case against an Aspen woman with multiple DUIs who was arrested last month for driving under a revoked license.
District Attorney Sherry Caloia filed the motion to dismiss earlier this month because Karen Sahr’s driving privilege wasn’t actually suspended on the date of her arrest.
“She had a valid license restricted to ignition interlock,” the motion reads. “Therefore, the case should be dismissed.”
Sahr was arrested Feb. 6 for suspicion of driving under restraint, a misdemeanor. She was not accused of possessing or consuming alcohol. The arrest came just one week before she was scheduled to report to the Pitkin County Jail to serve a 90-day sentence for her fifth DUI conviction.
Sahr’s last DUI arrest was March 10, 2014, when the car she was driving rammed into the back of a Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle that was parked on the shoulder of Highway 82 near Wildcat Ranch.
Deputy Erin Smiddy, who was sitting in the driver’s seat at the time of the accident, was not seriously injured. Sahr tested at a blood-alcohol level of 0.18 soon after the crash, according to court records.
