A South Floridian with strong Aspen ties has died.

Mark Levinson, who once owned an Aspen jewelry store and supported the local nonprofit community, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, the Miami Herald reported Tuesday. His death was reported at 4:42 a.m. Tuesday, the newspaper said. He was 60.

Levinson and his wife, Robin, opened a boutique in Aspen in July 2013. It is no longer in business.

“We are part-time residents of Aspen and very involved in the community. We absolutely love it here,” Mark Levinson said in a 2013 statement about the store’s opening.

The power couple, whose permanent residence was in Fort Lauderdale, supported numerous local charities, including the Buddy Program, Jazz Aspen Snowmass, Aspen 7908 Songwriters Festival and Response.

They have owned an Aspen duplex home since September 2002, when they bought it for $3 million, according to county property records.
