Colorado Ski Country USA has chosen six Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club athletes for the Rocky Mountain All-Star Team. CSCUSA recently announced the selection of freestyle skiers Jon Lafferty and Glenn Engelman, and alpine skiers Toby Lamar, Paul Britvar, Gillian Hearn and Alice McKennis. To qualify for the team, athletes must fulfill a list of requirements. First, they must distinguish themselves in competition as a member of the Rocky Mountain Division and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association. They also have to participate in a physical assessment and attend several RMD team workshops. Only 37 alpine athletes, 25 freestyle athletes, and 17 Nordic athletes from around the region qualified for this year’s team. Team members receive CSCUSA Gold Cards valid at any Colorado ski area.”This is a huge benefit for our athletes to get early season, on-snow training,” said Eric “Doughboy” Knight, the club’s freestyle program director. “Our division is one of the toughest in the country.”Lafferty’s results in slopestyle last season vaulted him into the top 2 percent of competitors nationally. Engelman’s fifth-place finish at the U.S. National Championships in dual moguls put him in the top 4 percent nationwide.”Its a great honor for them to be named to this team, an acknowledgement of all their hard work,” added Dave Hjerleid, the club’s alpine program director.
