Powder 8 Championships in Aspen produce new winners

ASPEN – Aspenites dominated Friday’s competition in the USA Powder 8 Championships in Little Annie basin on the back of Aspen Mountain. Two upstart duos unseated the reigning champs.
Fifteen teams competed in the final day of competition, which saw an upset win in the Open Division by the Aspen duo of Santiago Mazza and Hernan “Tito” Fanco, knocking off two-time winners Andy Docken and Jim “Shanzy” Schanzenbaker, also of Aspen.
The Aspen duo Jeff Maybon and Tanja Heller finished third.
In the Women’s Division, reigning champions Ginny Creak (Beaver Creek) and Stacey Gerrish (Aspen) settled for third place, as first-time competitors Megan Harvey and Cindy Leuchtenburg of Aspen took top honors.
Robynne Ross and Kelly Bearisto of Aspen, the leaders after Day 1 of the competition Thursday at Aspen Highlands, finished in second place.
