The Aspen High School boys basketball team bounced back with a 44-30 win at Roaring Fork.

After a loss on the road at Moffat County, the Skiers returned to the valley and picked up another Western Slope League win on Saturday.

“It was a good defensive effort, a good win,” Aspen head coach Rolf Schildman said. “I’m happy for the boys. We needed that one.”

A.J. Detrick led the Skiers in scoring with 12 points. Jack Rosenthal added 10. Zack George hit for seven points. Will Hazen scored four, as did Tristan Niskanen.

“Quinton O’Keeffe had two big 3s off the bench that gave us a lot of momentum,” Schildman said.

The win offset a 53-52 overtime loss the Skiers suffered at the hands of the Rams a month ago.

The Aspen boys improved to 5-7 overall and 2-5 in the Western Slope League.

Roaring Fork’s boys are 4-5 and 5-9 overall.

Grand Valley and Coal Ridge continue to lead the boys league standings, where they each are 7-1. Basalt is next at 7-2. The Longhorns are 10-2 overall.

The Aspen girls dropped both games over the weekend. On Saturday, Roaring Fork’s girls prevailed, 35-22. The AHS girls are 1-11 overall and 0-7 in league play.

Moffat County leads the girls league standings at 8-0. The Bulldogs are 10-2 overall.

The Aspen teams will host Gunnison on Friday night and Olathe on Saturday afternoon.
