The Basalt High School wrestling team is off to a fast start this season. The Longhorns won two duals over the weekend.

The Longhorns are back on the mats.

The Basalt High School wrestling team, in its third season after a 10-year hiatus at BHS, is back in action for the 2014-15 prep season.

The wrestlers are coached by Ryan Bradley, assisted by Thaddeus Eshelman and Yukani Ruiz.

Bradley said the Longhorns have 20 wrestlers out at the high school.

Senior Luis Ruiz, who is 5-1 on the season, leads the team along with returning state qualifier Olmer Marquez, a junior who is undefeated through six matches.

The high school program, Bradley said, is supported by a middle school program although neither the high school nor the middle school wrestling programs receive district funding.
