Aspen girls golf second at Central tournament

GRAND JUNCTION – The Aspen High School girls golf team finished tied for second in scramble scoring at the annual Central Invitational at Tiara Rado Golf Club in Grand Junction earlier this week.

The Skiers, as a scramble team, carded a 72 to finish in a tie with the Central White team.

Grand Junction High School won the scramble with a 68.

Palisade and Fruita Monument tied for fourth at 77.

The Aspen scramble team included Julia Budsey, Dolores Sharaf, Katherine Doherty and Nikki Blizzard.

The teams played in chilly conditions with light rain on the course at the base of the Colorado National Monument.

In team scoring, Grand Junction won at 279 in a tiebreaker over Central.

Durango finished third at 282.

Kelly Moran, of Boulder Fairview, was the individual medalist with a 75.

Maya Freismith, of Grand Junction, was second at 80.

Kate Shuman, of Palisade, was third with an 83.

Taylor Walters and Alyx Carter, both of Rifle, shot 84 and 85, respectively.

Zara Iacono, of Aspen, played as an individual. She shot a 104.

The Skiers are coached by Alden Richards and Don Buchholz.
