Aspen, Basalt boys basketball pick up wins; girls fall

Behind 22 points from senior Zack George, the Aspen High School boys basketball team defeated host Rangely on Tuesday, 66-61, to get back above .500 for the season.
The Skiers (4-3 overall) trailed by eight points at halftime but outscored the Panthers (4-4) by nine points in the third quarter and 26-22 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory. Senior A.J. Detrick also reached double figures with 16 points for AHS.
The Aspen girls lost 58-20 to Rangely (7-2) to fall to 0-7 on the season.
Aspen will host Basalt on Thursday in its first home game of 2017 and second home game of the winter season.
Basalt basketball splits with RF; wrestling falls
The Basalt High School boys basketball team defended its top-10 ranking Tuesday with a 52-28 home victory over the Roaring Fork Rams (6-2) in its first game this side of the holiday break.
The game was close through two quarters, Basalt only leading 18-17 at halftime. But fueled by the play of senior Michael Glen and junior Raul Torres, the Longhorns ended the third quarter up 36-21 and cruised to the win.
BHS, now 7-1 overall, hasn't lost since its season opener. The Longhorns are ranked No. 10 in Class 3A this week in the CHSAANow.com poll, their first top-10 ranking of the season.
The Basalt girls lost 32-25 to Roaring Fork on Tuesday, despite a valiant rally in the fourth quarter and 15 points from senior Carsyn Knotts. BHS is 1-8 overall with a trip to Aspen coming Thursday.
Also Tuesday, the Basalt wrestling team made the trek north for a dual with Moffat County, losing 70-6. The Longhorns' only win on the mat came via a pin (3:48) for junior heavyweight Oswaldo Morales over Moffat's Lee Graham. BHS has a dual at Battle Mountain on Thursday.
