I want to take the time to acknowledge everyone who helped make the Basalt High School football state playoff game on Nov. 5 possible.

I first want to thank the administration and faculty/staff of Basalt High School for their willingness to help out leading up to the game, and their continued support during the game.

Basalt High School students also were a big help in preparation for the big game. As a teacher and athletic director, it made me so proud to see students taking the initiative in helping out at the game when they recognized a need for support.

The BHS booster club has continued to be such an important presence while working in collaboration with the Basalt High School athletics department. The booster club played a major role in the preparation, logistics and operations of the state playoff game. Without this hardworking group of people, the game would not have gone nearly as smooth.

The Basalt Police Department and the Basalt Fire Department supported and assisted with the operations of the game, assuring traffic control, crowd control, safety and well being of all that attended the game and were of the utmost importance. A special thank you to Basalt High School resource officer Brian Lemke for his organization and support of planning the event and assistance in carrying out such a big event and creating a safe environment for the community of the town of Basalt.

I want to thank the community of Basalt as a whole for being so supportive throughout the entire fall season, and especially for the playoff game this past weekend. It was eye opening to see such an amazing town come together to create an environment of camaraderie in support of our educational athletic program.

As a first-year teacher and athletic director in the town of Basalt, it was so emotional for me to see the entire town come together and show their town pride.

I would like to thank the Lions Club for doing an amazing job with our brunch tailgate prior to the game. This group of people planned and executed a successful brunch tailgate in less than two days. Their willingness to help fundraise and be involved with Basalt High School athletics has been very refreshing.

Alpine Bank was another supporter in pulling the big game off by allowing us to borrow its pop-up tents in case of poor weather on Saturday. If it weren’t for Alpine Bank, our pregame tailgate would not have been as successful.

Jim Williams at KSNO Radio has been a huge supporter of Basalt High School athletics this season, and a big contributor to our pregame tailgate with his live broadcast getting our community hyped for the game. We were very happy with Jim and KSNO Radio this season and look forward to building an even stronger relationship in the future to encourage even more listeners in the community.

The press box staff and chain gang did a fantastic job this season, especially with the playoff game. These individuals volunteer every game because of their passion and willingness to be involved with our student athletes in creating a positive opportunity for the youth of our town. We thank you so much for your efforts and positive energy that you constantly bring to our games.

Lastly, I would like to thank our coaching staff as well as our Basalt High School football athletes. Without our coaching staff putting in the work hours day in and day out teaching leadership, perseverance, teamwork, sportsmanship and compassion, we could not have dreamed of such an amazing season. Our football student athletes made me so proud to be their athletic director on Saturday when they never gave up, encouraging each other to continually fight to keep their historic season going. Although it was an emotional end to the season, you reminded the community what it means to be a true Longhorn and fight for our town.

I couldn’t ask for a better way to end the fall season with hosting a state playoff football game for the first time in Basalt High School history. This is only a benchmark for what the rest of the school year and future has in store for our athletic program.
