Winter rugby returns.

The Junior Gents of Aspen are rucking and mauling in the snow once again.

The Junior Gents and the Gentlemen of Aspen will host a winter rugby exhibition at 2 p.m Sunday at Wagner Park in downtown Aspen.

The public is invited to the rugby exhibition as the Junior Gents prepare for the spring season. Rugby players, juniors and seniors, also are invited to take part.

“The Junior Gents are up and running already with some great recruits from Aspen, Basalt, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs,” said Gary Williams, coach of the Junior Gents. “It looks to be a very promising year.”

Williams, who led the team to a pair of state championships in the last three seasons, said Jake Gentry is back as the captain of the Junior Gents this season. He’s in his third season as a Junior Gent.

The vice captain is Luke Prosence, a top ski racer as well as rugby player.

Robert Hiles, a returning all-state player, also is back for the area high school rugby team.

Williams said Gentry, Prosence and Hiles all are being recruited for college rugby.

Matt Williams, Gary Williams’ son, currently is played on the UCLA rugby team.

Winter rugby will continue Jan. 25 with a practice session for the Junior Gents at 1 p.m. at Willits Field in Basalt.
