Mom sued over son’s ski crash

Staff report

A former instructor for Aspen Skiing Co. Ski & Snowboard Schools is suing the mother of a student who collided with her in 2013.

Kathryn Parkin filed a lawsuit Wednesday in Pitkin County District Court against Michelle Menaker, a gossip reporter in Illinois.

The suit holds Menaker responsible for the March 26 crash on an intermediate area — the complaint doesn’t identify the ski area — in which her son crashed into Parkin. Parkin suffered injuries, which also aren’t identified in the suit, leading to “physical pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, medical bills and loss of income,” the suit said.

The mother “owed a duty to (Parkin) to ensure (her son) was competent and/or qualified to enroll in the intermediate ski class taught by Plaintiff,” the suit said.

Denver attorney Andrew Sandomire filed the suit. Menaker could not be reached for immediate comment.
