Snowmass celebrates 2016 in style
January 7, 2016
This New Year's Eve will be one to remember in Snowmass Village.
The town has held a torchlight parade and fireworks display, a popular event that locals and visitors alike get to take part in or watch, between Christmas and New Year's for several years now, usually on the 28th. To ring in 2016, though, the village is moving the events to Dec. 31.
"We felt like we have tons of options of things to do on New Year's Eve, so we decided to move those fireworks to New Year's," said Rose Abello, director of Snowmass Tourism.
The display goes off at 10 p.m., right between the two on Aspen Mountain, she said. Staging for the parade, a pastime for intermediate skiers who ski with flares down Fanny Hill in a single-line formation, starts at 5:15 p.m. Participants should call the organizers at 970-923-0560 to get all the details about joining the parade, including how to dress, what to bring and what level of skier you need to be, Abello said.
Meanwhile, many Snowmass restaurants are offering a prix fixe or serving regular dinner, something Abello noted might be a good option for diners not looking to commit to a fully extravagant meal. But the prix fixe options, ranging from Eight K's gala that includes dinner, music, dancing and Champagne for $275 a person to a special menu at The Edge for $75 each, will be a good time, too, she said.
"There's lots to choose from," Abello said.

Not all the revelry requires a sit-down meal and a big price tag, though. Base Camp is offering two parties: a dance party upstairs featuring DJ Berkel Beats with Champagne and spot specials and another DJ downstairs with Champagne and drink specials, table/bottle service and a midnight toast for a $40 cover.
And at Turks, a new live- music joint on the Snowmass Village Mall, local favorite jam band Jes Grew is playing a free show.
While Mom and Dad dance the night away, kids 5 and up can have their own party at the Treehouse Kids Adventure Center. Part of the Very Important Kid Snowmass programming, the New Year's Eve party includes dinner as well as crafts and games and gets out after the fireworks at 10:30 p.m.
