Open house to offer wildfire-safety tips

The Snowmass Wildcat Fire Protection District will host an open house on wildfire readiness.

Wildfire-safety experts from the Fire District, the Bureau of Reclamation, the Red Cross, the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office and Pitkin County Communications Pitkin Alert will help prepare Snowmass residents to address the three major phases of wildfire safety in a program called "Ready, Set, Go!" The tips include learning how to create defensible space around a home, what to do in an evacuation and how to prepare a "go kit" with essentials, according to a statement.

The open house is at 6 p.m. on June 19 at the Snowmass Fire Station at 5275 Owl Creek Road. Refreshments will be served.

For more information or to sign up for a free home wildfire assessment, call Fire Marshal John T. Mele at 970-923-2212.
