Snowmass council tables vote on budget increases
November 20, 2012
SNOWMASS VILLAGE – The Snowmass Village Town Council voted Monday to table discussion of two resolutions related to the Elected Officials Transportation Committee’s budget.
The first was a proposal to add $125,000 to the 2012 budget for design and engineering on the Aspen Business Center pedestrian crossing. The second resolution would have approved the committee’s 2013 budget, including a request by the city of Aspen for $200,000 toward planning improvements to the Rubey Park Transit Center to come out of the committee’s capital pool.
The committee includes elected officials representing Snowmass, Aspen and Pitkin County.
Snowmass council members Monday questioned why they were not made aware that the pedestrian crossing was going over budget and expressed a desire for the parties involved to be held accountable to the original contract. With only three members present, the vote would have had to be unanimous for the resolution to pass, and Councilman Jason Haber said he would not support it.
The council voted to table the discussion on both resolutions. Council members voiced many concerns with the second resolution, including that the resolution was introduced outside of the transportation committee’s joint meetings, where they’d be able to talk with the other officials directly.
