Aspen, CO Colorado

ASPEN – A winter storm bearing down on Colorado is expected to bring up to 10 inches of the snow to the mountains by Thursday morning and up to a foot on the Eastern Plains.

State transportation department spokeswoman Mindy Crane said Wednesday this is expected to be one of the most significant snowstorms this season and snow plows are gearing up to keep roads clear, the Associated Press reported. Crane says hundreds of snow plows are being deployed on the Eastern Plains, while other crews are prepared to keep mountain highway arteries clear.

Winter storm warnings have been issued across the Midwest, but the mountains surrounding Aspen are under a winter weather advisory, according to the National Weather Service. The agency calling for snow Wednesday afternoon and night, and predicting 5 to 10 inches of accumulation with the potential for a foot of snow above 10,000 feet.

The local bloggers at aspenweather.net are predicting 3 to 6 inches of new snow at local ski resorts, with the potential for 9 or 10 inches if conditions are right. Another 2 to 4 inches are possible Thursday, they said.
