Aspen, CO ColoradoASPEN Grab your helmet and head out the door because all four local mountains are hosting special activities in conjunction with the National Ski Areas Association’s Safety Week.Along with the various safety-awareness events, Aspen Mountain and Aspen Highlands will be promoting sun protection and hydration through their guest service centers.A list of this week’s activities follows: Snowmass: There will be a kids carnival at the Big Burn Bears outdoor area from 1:30-3:30 p.m. today, with games, prizes, a helmet demo and more. Aspen Mountain: Ajax will host beacon practice and avalanche dog demos at 11 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday at Beacon Basin. Buttermilk: There will be a poster contest at the kids’ ski school Wednesday, with a helmet demo, pins and safety code handouts.Aspen/Snowmass also promotes safety initiatives throughout the year, including a school safety program and an annual safety video contest that local youth can enter.
