Police reopen block of lower downtown Denver
August 18, 2008
DENVER ” A block of lower downtown Denver is back open following the discovery of a suspicious box Monday morning.
Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson says authorities closed 17th to 18th streets between Market and Larimer, or a one square-block area of lower downtown, after the box was found.
The Denver bomb squad was called in to investigate.
Authorities later said a downtown business had a courier delivery box installed over the weekend, but police weren’t notified.
The U.S. Postal Service and other package delivery companies have been removing downtown drop-off boxes as a security precaution in advance of the Democratic National Convention, most of which will take place at the nearby Pepsi Center next week.
