Peirce’s condition improving
April 29, 2003
This letter is addressed to Tom Peirce’s many well-wishers and to further explain the decision for his withdrawal as a candidate to the Aspen City Council.
Last Wednesday evening Tom experienced severe pain in his arms and chest area. He was rushed to the Aspen Valley Hospital emergency room, where tests indicated he had suffered a moderately severe heart attack. Amazingly, further tests on Thursday morning revealed he had also experienced a mild stroke.
These problems were most probably induced by his underlying physical condition, but his doctors were taken by surprise as he had been doing well lately.
Even lying in the intensive care unit at the hospital, Tom seemed reluctant to give up his campaign and a chance to serve on the council and further his vision of the future of our town. His family and campaign organizers convinced him, however, that it was in his best interest to focus all of his attention on his health and recovery.
Tom is currently in ICU and will remain at the hospital for a few more days until his condition has completely stabilized and a medicinal regimen established for him to take home with him.
He wants us to thank you for your encouragement and support and hopefully will be able to be in touch with all of you personally in the near future.
