Open house on Thursday at Rubey Park in Aspen
July 7, 2014
The city of Aspen Transportation Department will hold a public house at the Rubey Park Transit Center from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday.
The open house will focus on the remodel of Rubey Park, which is used by the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority. Officials say demands on the transit center have grown in the advent of VelociRFTA Bus Rapid Transit service.
“We are excited about the new service and the increased number of riders that it brings to Rubey Park, but at the same time it makes the need to improve the facility even more apparent,” says John Krueger, the city’s transportation director.
The city hired a consultant team, led by Aspen‐based Studio B Architects, to advance a design for the remodel that is heavily based on community input. Thursday’s open house is the fifth in a series of five.
The process to finish the design includes city land-use approvals, with review by the Planning and Zoning Commission scheduled for July 15. City staff, with the aid from RFTA and the Elected Officials Transportation Committee, is pursuing a number of state and federal grants to fund the design and construction of the remodel, according to a press release.
