Aspen, CO ColoradoPresented by Bulgari and sponsored by Aspen Magazine, the Dennis Basso Freestyle fashion show was a hit over the holidays on Thursday, Dec. 28. The après-ski gala is one of two annual Aspen Art Museum benefits and accounts for 25 percent of the museum’s annual budget.

Chaired by Carolyn Powers, Freestyle 2006 was the most successful fundraising event in the AAM’s history, netting $600,000 in just two and a half hours. The event began at 4:30 p.m. in the St. Regis ballroom, with cocktails, champagne and a silent auction until 6 p.m. More than 100 silent auctions were on display including fine jewelry, adventures, gourmet dinners, lavish trips and more. The silent auction alone raised $310,000 according to Jeff Murcko, AAM public relations and marketing manager.

The live auction began soon after with Andrea Fiuczynski, President of Christie’s Beverly Hills, at the mic. Items up for bid included a Dennis Basso sable coat kindly donated by Dennis Basso, with an added bonus of joining the furrier in New York for his upcoming spring fashion show along with an invitation to his private post-show dinner. Other hotly sought after items were a $10,000 Bulgari Shopping Spree, a photo shoot with famed photographer Patrick Demarchelier in his New York studio, and a custom portrait by Los Angeles artist Amy Adler. Adler’s portrait-series exhibition, Make-Believe is currently on view at the Aspen Art Museum. The fashion show got underway immediately afterward as models paraded down the runway in Dennis Basso’s tony winter collection.

“The collection begins with a look at Aspen and moves into a Town & Country feel,” Basso said in describing this year’s pieces. “It’s very diversified as the Aspen woman is a little bit city and a little bit country.”

Among the notable guests at the event were baseball great David Winfield, AAM 2006 major donor honorees Kent and Vicki Logan, and celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito.”This event has become a tradition that is important for the community and important to me,” Basso continued. “I’m a lover of the arts and proud to support them here in this community.”
