Not so green, after all

Dear Editor:Wake up, Aspen! The latest media blitz in Aspen is global warming and the impending disaster it poses to the ski community. The Aspen Skiing Co., in all its wisdom, decides to send a message by handing out green arm bands at the X Games. The poor, who can’t afford the fuel to come to Aspen, will see on their TVs that their rich, gas-guzzling counterparts care about the environment by driving to Aspen for the X Games and wearing green. What hypocrites! Nine diesel generators turn out enough power to light half the country of Niger, while 1,000-horse-power cats work around the clock to churn the snow into a frozen wonderland.Meanwhile, Two Creeks is built with the adjacent development knocking out 40 km of Nordic trails, a wind-powered multi-mountain gondola link is axed in favor of the monstrous Base Village and Skico profits are used to build a heated but vacant palace for the seldom-seen Crown family. If Skico wanted to make a difference, they would fess up and admit their rampant development is the problem, not the solution. When have you ever seen the Crown family walking, riding the bus or Nordic skiing?Nathan MorseSnowmass Village
