If mud is your thing, open up your Saturday morning for the fifth annual Longhorn Stampede.

Participants will negotiate a 2-mile long obstacle course mud run at Basalt High School. Obstacles include a giant waterslide, multiple mud pits and a huge hay-bale climb.

“Be prepared to get dirty and wet,” said Stephanie Nevarez, one of the students helping organize the event. The high school’s Student Leadership Council organizes the event.

The Longhorn Stampede for students will be held Friday, and the community race is Saturday.

“This is an event that we put on for all of the Basalt High School students at the end of each year to promote healthy lifestyles and physical fitness,” Nevarez said in an email. “Last year we had about 70 percent of the student body participate in some way and we are excited to see it grow this year.”

The student race will be run in teams of four and individually for the community race. The student race will require physical fitness, teamwork, perseverance and determination.

For the community race, participants can preregister and sign a waiver at bhs.rfsd.org. The fee is $15.

Registration also will be held starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the high school. The fee will rise to $20.

Participants get a T-shirt the day of the race. All ages are welcome for the community event, but children 10 and younger must be supervised by a parent or guardian.
