Jeanne Marie Lederer, 59, passed away on Monday, Feb. 18 in her home.

Born and raised in Des Plaines, Ill., Jeanne was the daughter of Marion and the late James Doherty. She graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill. in 1975 with a major in psychology, which suited her passion for working with individuals and helping the community. She had an intuitive sense and a loving and supportive manner which she displayed with her friends and through her work.

Jeanne moved to Colorado in the late ’70s. She initially worked in cosmetology, wrote a column, “Lip From Lederer,” in the Aspen local news, and joined the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Department as a detention officer. She was promoted to assistant jail administrator and, finally, jail administrator before reting to raise her young children.

Known by Aspenites as “Jeanne, the Dancing Machine,” she will always be remembered for her outgoing personality, charisma and unique sense of style.

Jeanne will be missed dearly by her daughter Brooke, son Drew, brother Phil, ex-husband Larry, family and friends from the Midwest to the Rockies. Let her rest in peace; we know she has passed on to a better place.
