Jean Garner died peacefully on Sunday, Feb 10, 2013, at Heritage Park Nursing Home in Carbondale, Colo. Beloved wife of 62 years to Del Garner; devoted mother of Dexter Garner and Sheila Garner Howerter; proud grandmother of three; great-grandmother of two. Preceded in death by son, Derek Garner.
Jean was born in Amherst, Texas, grew up on a farm in Littlefield, Texas, and later moved to town where she graduated from high school. She married Delbert shortly after high school and became partners in dance and romance for the next 62 years. Early in their marriage, they began working alongside one another on their farm and ranch outside of Farwell, Texas. The family later moved to the Aspen, valley and opened GBS Construction. Upon retirement, Jean and Del became part-time RVers as “snow Birds,” spending winters in Arizona.
Always charming and charismatic, Jean loved making new friends, and her door was always open to house guests. Jean will be missed by friends in all the places she has lived.
A grave site service will be Saturday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. at Red Butte Cemetery in Aspen, Colo., and a family and friends reception at the home, 373 Apple Drive, Basalt, Colo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to the Advocate Safe House, 109 Eighth St., Glenwood Springs, CO 81601 (www.advocatesafehouse.org).
