Enough of John Denver

Dear Editor:

I never grew up listening to John Denver, and never really cared for his music as I’ve gotten older. Sorry, he just didn’t seem all that appealing to me, but lately he is becoming rather annoying in my mind.

John Denver is dead. He died a few years ago. He has his memorials, his charities, memoirs, special concerts, and I’m sure like most musicians, will release a two-disc-platinum-never-heard-before-rereleased-gold-collection CD set for only $19.99 plus shipping. My point is, John Denver is gone and he has so many ways to be remembered already. Do we really need another one?

He has a special plot of land in Aspen, for crying out loud. River front property at that. Will a peak really serve any other purpose other than the agenda of someone who doesn’t even live in this valley? Someone who may not even visit this peak if it is named? How about we just rename Denver to John Denver, that way everyone may constantly be reminded that John Denver was here, and that he will never be forgotten.

I have an idea, and maybe even JD would appreciate. All the people wanting to name this peak after him, how about you go plant a tree in your yard and put a little sign next to it saying something about JD. At least that way you are helping the world a little bit instead of just renaming a part of it.
