Debacle on the tracks
February 17, 2004
I was on the westbound Amtrak from Denver. The information we received on the train was nonexistent.
The conductors were extremely rude. In fact, I would go so far as to say they were belligerent. Some fights almost broke out. Some of the passengers used their cellular telephones to call 911 for information and an Eagle County sheriff was dispatched to the scene, only to have to argue with the conductors as well.
One gentleman and four small kids left the train in Dotsero. We were then transported to Bond to be loaded onto busses of which they hadn’t enough. My wife and I left Denver at 9:15 a.m. Sunday and arrived in Glenwood at 1:15 a.m. Monday.
That’s only the end of our story. On Friday our train to Denver was to depart at 1:10 p.m. It didn’t. It departed at around 7 p.m. Then we were stopped at the Moffat tunnel for about four hours. Arrived in Denver at 7 a.m. Saturday.
Time on train eastbound: 12 hours. Time traveling westbound: 16 hours. Great weekend!
