DENVER ” A case with potentially far-reaching effects on the oil and gas industry is going before the Colorado Supreme Court.
The court is scheduled to hear arguments Wednesday in a dispute over water that’s pumped from the ground in order to draw natural gas out of coal beds.
Landowners in southwest Colorado have sued, saying the practice threatens their limited water supplies.
A lower court sided with the landowners. The state engineer’s office and the gas company BP America Production have appealed to the Supreme Court.
