Community absent from Isis Group proposal

Dear Editor:How can anyone with a true sense of “community” seriously endorse this last-minute proposal by the Isis Group to the fire district? The fire department and the Thrift Shop are both such old volunteer organizations in our downtown and should remain there, imparting a sense of real small town, sans glitz. These two worthy groups have been working closely together regarding the new buildings since day one.Speaking as a board member of the Thrift Shop, we do not know yet what the Isis Group has in mind for us or if our building is involved at all in their proposal, nor have we even been contacted directly by them. Is their proposal lot line to lot line? We built our own current building 24 years ago with mostly donated labor and materials – a real community effort – and we’re excited to think about building a new one with equal community support. Funding for our project will not come from the bond election but by our own fundraising efforts. By and large, the City Council loves our two entities, so much so that they graciously extended as recently as last Monday our leases for 40 more years. We need the community to support the fire department bond issue in the upcoming May election for the sake of two wonderful volunteer organizations.Carolyn MooreAspen
