Carbondale sewer work may cause backups
September 4, 2008
CARBONDALE ” The Carbondale Utilities Department will begin performing annual cleaning and maintenance of the sewer system throughout town starting Monday, Sept. 8.
Water under high pressure will be used, which could create a potential inconvenience for customers with short service lines.
“The town of Carbondale Utilities Department apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this maintenance may cause the residents of Carbondale,” town officials said in a press release. “We thank you for your cooperation in this matter and offer the following suggestions to assist you in keeping your inconvenience to a minimum.”
Tips from the town:
– If you have experienced a problem in the past with back pressure or water backing up in your plumbing fixtures, cover those fixtures with a plastic bag or towel between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
– If you have pets at home, leave a window cracked open for ventilation.
Recommended Stories For You
– If you smell sewer gas, don’t be alarmed. Leave a window cracked open; the odor normally dissipates quickly.
– A backwater valve is strongly recommended on service lines of less than 20 feet in length from the collector line to foundation (manufacturers reference Zurn model #Z1095). This acts as a check valve; it is designed to stop reverse flows on sanitary service lines.
