Buttermilk parking restricted due to construction
June 13, 2014
Aspen Skiing Co. is asking motorists and driving to Buttermilk to use the hiking and biking trails to not use the Main Buttermilk parking lot.
The lot is being used for staging during construction of new facilities at the base of the ski area. The use of the parking lot for recreational users of Buttermilk is prohibited for safety reasons, according to Skico. Alternative parking is available on the east side of the Inn at Aspen, the company said in a statement.
Skico also has an agreement with Pitkin County to use the Stapleton parking lot, closer to Owl Creek Road, on an as-needed basis for parking and construction staging, according to the company. “Right now, we are not filling up the lot by any means,” Skico’s Jeff Hanle said, referring to the Stapleton lot. “Later on in construction, it certainly could fill up with either contractor parking or material/machinery staging. Until that time, it’s open and available.”
The paved commuter lot, commonly known as the Highlands shuttle lot, will be unaffected by Skico’s project, Hanle said. That lot is owned and managed by Pitkin County.
