Boarding passes good for free lift rides

VAIL – When Steve Zimmerman comes to Vail, he wants to ride the lifts as soon as he can.
If he gets the first flight out of Dallas, he arrives at the Eagle County Regional Airport shortly after 11 a.m. He can be on the hill by 1:30 p.m.
“The anticipation,” said Zimmerman, a Dallas resident. “You just want to get out there. It’s just beautiful.”
Zimmerman said he’ll take advantage of a new program that lets visitors trade boarding passes for lift tickets.
Vail and Beaver Creek are offering free lift tickets for visitors the same day they fly in to the Eagle County Regional Airport. Based on flight schedules, passengers from Dallas, Atlanta and Chicago would be best able to take advantage of the program, said Christina Schleicher, spokeswoman for Beaver Creek.

Visitors must present their airline boarding pass at a Vail or Beaver Creek ticket window to get the free daily lift ticket. They must also show confirmation that they’re staying in a local hotel.
Zimmerman said he’s already bought lift tickets for his Vail visit later this month, but he’ll definitely look into the program the next time he comes here.
“That would make me think about flying to Vail versus Denver or Colorado Springs,” said Zimmerman, a frequent Vail visitor.
Getting up on the mountain on the first day is a good chance to get acclimated to skiing, Zimmerman said.
“It’s the opportunity to get your legs underneath you,” he said.
Skiers who arrive in the afternoon may not be able to get to the mountain in time to take advantage of the deal. Lifts now close at 4 p.m.
Ian Arthur, vice president of marketing and sales for Vail and Beaver Creek, said the company wanted to highlight the good access that’s offered by the local airport.
Many guests don’t want to wait to get on the mountain, Arthur said.
“They’re coming up for a vacation of a lifetime, for many of them,” he said.
Boarding passes for flights into airports other than the Eagle County Regional Airport can’t be used. The promotion lasts until April 15. For more information, call 1-800-404-3535.
