Big Air Fridays blast off

SNOWMASS ” Bud Light Big Air Fridays kick off this week at Fanny Hill at Snowmass and runs every week through April 6.
Local snowboarders and skiers can compete for a weekly prize purse of $1,050 while giving spectators a show during apres-ski. Practice is between 1 and 2 p.m., before the official competition from 2-3 p.m.
There will also be giveaways throughout the event, as well as live music on the Snowmass mall from 3-4:30 p.m., then a fireworks display.
The competition is a 40-minute jam session beginning at 2 p.m. Judges choose four skiers and four snowboarders to continue on to the finals. Finalists will have one jump and then be placed according to best trick.
Registration takes place from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on the day of the event at the base of the jump on Fanny Hill. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and limited to 20 skiers and 20 snowboarders.
The entry fee is $20 per event (cash or check only). The competition is open to pros or amateurs of all ages. Competitors younger than 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present at registration to sign a waiver, and helmets are required. To qualify, competitors must either have competed in a Big Air event last season or must successfully land the big air jump with a member of the Snowmass ski patrol as witness on the day of the event.
