Auction will benefit Aspen Community School

ASPEN – Aspen Community School has revived its art auction to raise funds for its “I Believe” campus campaign.

Partnering with Aspen Skiing Co. and The Little Nell, Aspen Community School is co-presenting the “I Believe in Art” online art auction through Friday at http://www.iBelieveACS.org.

The online auction features 70-plus artworks by such celebrated contemporary artists as Karl Hollinger, Thomas W. Benton, Kris Cox, Ferenc (Franz) Berko, Doug Casebeer, Isa Catto, Mark Cesark and Jody Guralnick, as well as Caio Fonseca, Robert Kelly and other artists from the art collection of The Little Nell. During the auction’s two-week bidding period, select artworks will be on view in the boutique hotel’s lobby.

“The way the community has rallied in support of this auction has been extraordinary, which is a reflection of how much they value this public charter school and its remarkable arts program,” said Melanie Muss, Community School parent and board president. “Thanks to the generosity of the artists and sponsors, 100 percent of proceeds will directly benefit the campaign and will be matched dollar for dollar by the State of Colorado.”

The “I Believe in Art” auction is part of the school’s “I Believe” campus campaign to replace its facilities in Woody Creek. The state awarded the Community School a BEST challenge grant (Building Excellent Schools Today) of $4.2 million if it can raise its match by May 1.

Art auction bidders will help raise funds towards this raise-it-or-lose-it challenge to rebuild the school campus. One hundred percent of bid amounts, less the retail value of the artworks, is tax-deductible.
